Title: Just You and Me
Pairing: Emma/Regina
Note: Gif by fuckyeahanita.
Storybrooke was a town filled with chaos, panic and confusion after the Curse was broken. Anywhere Emma turned she face problems she was supposed to solve, people she was supposed to give advice to, masses that needed to be lead to their happy endings. Being the savior came with more responsibility that Emma ever wanted and lately, it felt like running in circles, answering questions with uncertainty that was met with disappointment since Emma was supposed to know the answers to everything and yet she felt she knew less than anyone else.
The only place where the lost princess felt safe was the cold beach, the sound of waves crushing against the ground calming down her racing heart.
"I am so tired," Emma sighed, resting her head against Regina’s shoulder. The former mayor brushed a strand of blonde hair from her face with more gentleness than Emma ever knew.
"I never asked for this," her voice was almost a whisper, broken and sad.
Regina pulled her close, cradling her as she used to cradle Henry back in the times he let her. She thought of poisoned apples and evil queens (of Snowhite and her own mother) and the children who got caught in the middle of all this.
Emma was a child of war, a war with no beginning and no end. Somewhere between all that hate a girl was born who was their only hope, their silent scream for peace. She was the product of war and yet, somehow, she was unlike any of them.
"I know, dear," was all Regina said and all Emma really needed to hear.
